By Anne Byers, Nebraska Information Technology Commission
Not surprisingly, the top 10 counties for broadband availability in Nebraska include some of Nebraska’s larger counties: Buffalo, Douglas and Lancaster Counties. What may surprise some is that the top five (Merrick, Nance, Polk, Kearney, and Boyd Counties) are small counties with populations of less than 8,000.

Top 10 list

The 10 counties with the most limited broadband availability include some of the state’s least populated counties. Five of the 10 counties (Hooker, Loup, Logan, Banner and McPherson Counties) have fewer than 1,000 people. Custer County is the largest county on the list with 10,897 people.

Bottom 10 List

The table below shows the most improved counties for broadband availability between 2014 and 2016. Dodge County with a population of 36, 707 is the largest county on the list. Keya Paha County is the smallest county with 793 people.
