Communities

Grants available for community information technology projects
The Nebraska Information Technology Commission is now accepting applications for the Community Technology Fund 2002.  Approximately $200,000 is available for community information technology projects.    Applicants must notify the NITC of their intent to submit an application by 5:00 p.m. CT Friday, January 18, 2002.  Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. CT, Friday, February 15, 2002.  Read the press release.  

City of South Sioux City, AIM Institute receive grants from Community Technology Centers program 
The U.S. Department of Education awarded $34 million in grants for the Community Technology Centers program.   The City of South Sioux City received a $138,500 grant and the AIM Institute received a $299,999 grant.     

Milken Institute report examines abilities of states to capitalize on information technologies
The Milken Institute's New Economy Index ranked Nebraska 40th in its ability to capitalize on the new economy.    

Economic Opportunities in Rural America
The Fall 2001 issue of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Community Reinvestment (PDF document) highlights how three communities have created economic opportunities.  Aurora's focus on technology-related development is featured.

E-Government Conference
About 200 participants -- representing over 50 agencies -- attended the third annual E-Government Conference, The Web and More! on November 6. Governor Johanns opened the conference which was followed by a day-long discussion of e-government topics including: security, online payments, accessibility issues, and "Building a Business Case."
