  Communities

Database lists public access sites
A new public access database lists libraries, Extension offices, and other publicly-sponsored locations where individuals in Nebraska may access the Internet.  The database is a collaborative project of the NITC Community Council, the Nebraska Library Commission, and Nebraska Online. 

Community Technology Fund grants
available for community IT projects
Communities are encouraged to apply for the 2001 Community Technology Fund.   Approximately $270,000 is available for community IT projects.   Preapplications are due January 12, 2001 and proposals are due February 16, 2001.

Statewide technology training study being conducted The Center for Applied Rural Innovation and the AIM Institute are surveying over 400 organizations to determine the level of technology training.

School officials take a more long-term look at technology funding say experts from ISTE, Consortium of School Networking (CoSN), and Market Data Retrieval (MDR).

Schools need to spend a greater proportion on teacher technology training although hardware lends itself to a greater visual return, recent study says.

How will UCITA, the Uniform Computer Information Transactions Act affect your institution? Satellite teleconference on Wednesday, December 13, 2000.

The next Education Council Meeting will be held Friday, December 15, 2000 from 9AM-12PM CT in the UNL East Campus Student Union, 37th & Fair Streets, Lincoln, Nebraska. Room will be posted.

  State Government
Electronic Filing Regulations Approved
New electronic signature/electronic filing regulations were approved by the Governor and went into effect on November 12. These regulations, in part, provide agencies with flexibility in how they receive electronic filings. 

Agency IT Plans
As part of the IT planning process for state government, each agency submitted an Agency IT Plan. Click here to view these plans and a summary document which provides a brief 1-2 page summary of each. 

E-Government Report
The Council for Excellence in Government recently released a report entitled E-Government: The Next American Revolution. According to the council, the study shows that "Americans feel that e-government will not only change the way they relate to government as customers of government services, but also as citizens of a democracy."
